Magnolia x kewensis Wada's Memory Believed to be a hybrid between Magnolia salicifolia and Magnolia kobus, bred in Japan, the willow-leaved magnolia, Magnolia x kewensis Wada's Memory is a small, graceful, slow-growing, deciduous tree, conical when young, but developing a broad crown as it matures. Scented, semi-double white flowers appear in mid-spring on the bare branches. The big, oval leaves emerge reddish, turning bronze and then green. Bright pink knobbly fruits containing orange-red seeds form in autumn. Very little pruning required; prune in late summer to prevent ‘bleeding’. Holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
