Apple Uncle John’s Cooker An Irish heritage variety of cooking apple from Kilkenny, named after the late John Daniels of Piltown. Very large, shiny, red apples with soft, white flesh and a mild taste. Left to ripen on the tree, the fruit develops a sweet, strong, berry flavour and can even be eaten as a dessert apple. Apple ‘Uncle John’s Cooker is a particularly wind-resistant variety; the apples hang on the tree for a long time, and can be picked as late as December – if you can keep the birds away!
