Climbing Hydrangea Miranda
A really good, easy, variegated climber for year-round interest, Hydrangea anomala subsp petiolaris Miranda is a large, evergreen to semi-evergreen, slow-growing, self-clinging climber, which will really light up a large wall. Peeling, coppery bark adds winter interest, and the leaves remain on the plant through winter in mild areas. The large, serrated, ovate- to heart-shaped leaves are deep green with golden-yellow margins, which sometimes fade to creamy-white in summer. In summer, big, domed, white, lace-cap flowers are borne, the tiny fertile flowers surrounded by a ring of four-petalled sterile flowers. Climbing hydrangea Miranda needs guiding to the wall with a support, but will eventually cling and climb by aerial roots. Keep well watered until established.
