Rose-coloured Chinese Bladdernut This is an upright shrub or small, spreading tree for the larger garden. Staphylea holocarpa var. Rosea is a deciduous shrub, and leaves that emerge bronze, and turn blue-green, and are composed of three leaflets up to 4”/10cm long. Small, pendant clusters of pink, bell-shaped flowers appear in April and May; these are followed by swollen, bladder-like, greenish fruits, 2”/5cm long. Good in a cottage garden or low-maintenance garden, and beds and borders. Rose-coloured Chinese bladdernut can be propagated by softwood cuttings in spring or semi-ripe cuttings in late summer, both with bottom heat. An easy tree that needs minimal pruning and is pest- and disease-free.
