7 Weeks Throwing Course - Advanced  Wednesdays 6-8pm About the Course The Level 3 (Advanced) 7 weeks course has been designed for those who have completed our Level 1 & 2 (Beginners/Improvers) 7 weeks course, or who have had similar time on the wheel. Considered a course for advanced potters, you may work at your own pace, guided by our expert teacher, to consolidate your knowledge of the craft of throwing on the potting wheel and/or learn additional pottery skills to expand your making scope. This will cover wedging, lids, handles, spouts and clay attachments which are some of the more challenging shapes to be acquired. Please speak to your teacher in the first class if there are specific skills that you would like to focus on during the course and they will try to accommodate you. Where and What Time: This workshop runs for 7 evenings from 6pm to 8pm in our Arran Street East studio in the heart of the Dublin Fruit and Vegetable Markets area. Eircode: D07 K744 google map. Cost: €370 If you would like to give this course as a gift please look at our Gift Cards options here. Learning Outcomes - Demonstrations by the teacher of new pottery skills, and tutoring you to help you learn them. - Practice on your individual wheel with unlimited clay and your own wareboard. We will provide you with a wareboard, a poly sheet, and a name label for your wareboard at the beginning of each course. This is to identify and wrap your work and keep it from drying out too quickly. Please take good care of your board, and respect your poly sheet, as you will need it for the duration of the course. - A behind the scenes tour of our new professional pottery studio on Arran Street East to show you where and how a production pottery operates (clay sizing, pug mill, wheel throwing, drying, waxing, glazing and kiln firing). - Selection of 3 of your favourite pieces for the final workshop session when you will glaze your own pieces in preparation for us firing them for you. We will be in touch when they are ready for collection a few weeks after the class. - We will also provide you with a link to our online video on handbuilding with clay, which you can do at home should you wish – you can recycle the clay from your unfired pieces again and again. Content description here. (Tools and clay available to purchase separately if you need them, here).                                                                         You will further develop your skills to throw  pots on a pottery wheel, including: - wedging, lids, handles, spouts and clay attachments  - more challenging shapes - taller pieces - taking care of your wheel station You may take as many of your pots home with you as you like (please note the pots will airdry over a few days and may then be used for display - they will not be glazed or watertight). Please bring small boxes (like Tupperware or cardboard) to bring your creations home with you.  If you would like to have extra pots glazed you might like to book into one of our 2-hour Glazing Workshops.  We really hope you will enjoy your time on the wheel as much as we enjoy teaching it, and hope to see you soon in our School of Pottery! If you would like to give this Workshop as a gift please look at our Gift Cards options here. Where and What Time: This workshop runs for in our light-filled Arran Street East studio in the heart of the Dublin Fruit and Vegetable Markets area. Eircode: D07 K744 google map. Time: 6pm - 8pm FAQs When will my pot be ready for collection?  Please allow at least 4 weeks for your pot to be ready for collection. We will email you when they are ready. Please sign your pot as instructed by the teacher. Please note - sometimes, not often, pieces don’t survive firing in the kiln and they get damaged - this is beyond any potter’s control. Should this happen to your pot we will supply you with a blank pot which you may glaze at the workshop. What should I wear/bring?  Your clothes and shoes will get wet and dirty from clay splashes so please wear comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting messy. Please bring your own apron and a hand towel.  Who is this course for? This pottery workshop will suit improvers and potters with some experience looking to practice more advanced throwing techniques.  Is there an age limit for the Workshop? This course is generally for people aged 18 and above. A teenager over 15 may attend if they are accompanied by an adult. Please let us know in advance.  What's the day like? You will be welcomed by your teacher and brought to one of our classrooms (please let us know if you have mobility issues so we can accommodate you in the downstairs classroom, as some classrooms are accessible by stairs only). Each participant will have access to their individual pottery wheel/workstation and tools for the duration of the workshop. We supply all the materials you need, but please bring your own apron and towel so as not together your clothes wet with clay. The workshop ends with a class and equipment tidy up - another important part of the potter's training!  What are my transport/parking options getting to the workshop? The nearest Luas Red Line stop is 'Four Courts', (a five minute walk away) and many bus routes service Stop 1479 on Ormond Quay, at the junction with Capel Street. You'll also find a Dublin Bikes stand at each of these locations. Due to our City Centre location, on-street parking immediately outside the building is limited, but there is pay and display in the general area, and there are large car parks nearby at Jervis Shopping Centre and beside the Fruit and Vegetable Markets. Is my booking transferrable and what is the cancellation policy? Please check our cancellation policy. Are there any Health and Safety issues? Please note you will be working on a pottery wheel in a bent position which might put some strain on your neck or back or wrists. Please first consult your doctor if you have had back, neck, wrist or any other injuries.  Please keep your hair tied up and your nails short.  Where can I contact you with any questions? You can email us at [email protected]. Thank you!
