Make a Mug, 1.5 day CourseDATES:11-12th December About the Course 10.30am to 4.30pm on day 1 and 10.30am – 2.30pm on day 2 Join us for this 1.5 day pottery class where you will be introduced to the techniques of throwing pots and making handles - to make mugs. In a small group, over a day and half, you will have time to explore this ancient and meditative craft, and we hope you enjoy the process as much as we enjoy teaching it. During this day-and-a-half pottery class you will work on a potting wheel to shape clay, and learn some key throwing techniques, guided by one of our expert teachers. The aim will be to make mugs on day one and then you will learn to attach handles to them the next day.   We will ask you to select two of your favourite pieces that you make in the class, and we will fire and glaze them for you, and contact you when they are ready for collection - usually within a few weeks after the class.

Cost: €185 Where and What Time: This workshop runs for a day and a half, from 10.30am to 4.30pm on day 1 and 10.30am – 2.30pm on day 2 in our light-filled Arran Street East studio in the heart of the Dublin Fruit and Vegetable Markets area. Eircode: D07 K744 google map.  Lunch is from 1.15pm to 2.15pm on day one and there are several lovely places nearby for you to buy lunch if you wish, for example: Brother Hubbard Panem Fegands 1924 Oxmantown FAQs Who is this course for? This pottery workshop will suit beginners looking for an introduction to working with clay, or those who have worked with clay before and would like a simple refresher or time to make some new pieces. Is there an age limit for the Workshop? This course is generally for people aged 18 and above. A teenager over 15 may attend if they are accompanied by an adult. Please let us know in advance.  What are my transport/parking options getting to the workshop? The nearest Luas Red Line stop is 'Four Courts', (a five minute walk away) and many bus routes service Stop 1479 on Ormond Quay, at the junction with Capel Street. You'll also find a Dublin Bikes stand at each of these locations. Due to our City Centre location, on-street parking immediately outside the building is limited, but there is pay and display in the general area, and there are large car parks nearby at Jervis Shopping Centre and beside the Fruit and Vegetable Markets. What is the course like? You will be welcomed by your teacher and brought to an upstairs light-filled classroom (no lifts available). Each participant will have access to their own pottery wheel/workstation and tools for the duration of the workshop. We supply all the materials you need.  Each day ends with a class and equipment tidy up - another important part of the potter's training!  What should I wear/bring? Please wear comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting messy. Please bring your own apron. Should I wear a mask? As per the government's regulations masks are not mandatory during the workshop.  Are there any Health and Safety issues? Please note you will be working on a pottery wheel in a bent position which might put some strain on your neck or back or wrists. Please first consult your doctor if you have had back, neck, wrist or any other injuries.  To reach the classroom you will have to use stairs and there is no lift in the building.  Please keep your hair tied up and your nails short.  When will my pot be available for collection? We will ask you to select two of your favourite pieces that you made in the workshop, and we will fire and glaze them for you, and contact you when they are ready for collection - usually within a few weeks after the class.  You will make a few different little pots during the day, which you are welcome to bring home to airdry if you like. Please bring your own wrapping (bubble wrap, tissue paper, small carboard box, etc) if you would like to do this. Please note these pieces can be used for display only and are not watertight.  You can recycle the clay in these pieces if you want to make something else or use our At Home Clay Kit if you would like to learn some handbuilding techniques.
