'Saor' by Joanne Clerkin 5-colour hand-pulled screen print420 x 594mm / on 285gsm Context Birch paper. Edition of 15, signed and numbered by the artist.   About the PieceThroughout my practice I have been exploring human/nature relationships, particularly "biophilia", my own personal relationship with nature and how it positively impacts on my mental health. The biophilia hypothesis proposes that humans have an innate tendency to connect with other forms of life. We as a species have lived amongst nature for over 90% of our existence. There is no doubt that this urge to connect with nature remains within us. With a deeper appreciation of nature and a stronger connection to it, the urge to protect it grows. With the climate crisis looming, protection of the natural world is becoming extremely crucial. I find beauty and peace in my relationship with nature and appreciate how nurturing this relationship can be for both, human life and nature. This print is inspired by summers spent wandering and exploring the fields around where I grew up in Co. Meath. This particular image is based on an old, abandoned house I often visited. The way in which nature has taken back this space has always fascinated me.  FramingFrames can be purchased through Damn Fine Print in black, white and natural wooden finishes, here.
