About the Piece"I wanted to convey the excitement and spectacle of the mass of swimmers progressing through the Liffey waters. An orange summer's sun is reflected and refracted by the water. The style of the repeat pattern is inspired by Art Deco pochoir printed patterns designed by Maurice Verneuil in the 1920s. His work represents a popular manifestation of De Stijl and Russian Suprematist design ideas which were exciting the European avant garde when the first Liffey Swim took place in Dublin in 1920.”
