About the print Mainstay pays homage to the iconic Brutalist buildings and landmarks of the London cityscape. It is an interpretation of this strong architectural language composed of a section of repeated columns inspired by the concrete beauty and graphic expression of Brutalist architecture.Breen makes screen prints characterised by flat abstract motifs and geometric compositions. Her work explores the interplay between solid and space through studies in colour and form. She’s is interested in the possibilities and limitations of relational elements, and the infinite variations unturned. Experimental and methodical, her work celebrates abstraction, gradation and symmetry. Breen takes inspiration from curious objects and environments. Rigid grid structures and a reductive toolkit inform her organised designs. Created using multiple layers of graphic elements, she creates tension, rhythm and contrast through shape interaction and colour combinations.About the artistDeirdre Breen graduated in 2008 from Limerick School of Art and Design.
