Apple King of the Pippins
A very old apple thought to have come from France in the 18th century, Apple King of the Pippins is a highly versatile early to mid-season apple, good for eating, cooking, juicing and cider. The tree is of compact, upright habit, moderately vigorous and a spur-bearer. Good yields of medium-sized yellow apples streaked and flushed with orange-red; eaten fresh, they have a good subacid flavour, and they also cook well, the slices retaining their shape when cooked in open tarts. Some susceptibility to scab and canker, but a good all round apple. Partially self-fertile, but will crop much better with a suitable pollination partner.
