Great Wood-rush Solar Flair A diminutive, vividly coloured cultivar of the native great wood-rush, Luzula sylvatica Solar Flair is a compact, evergreen, perennial grass with a clump-forming, non-spreading habit. The glossy, arching leaves are broadly linear, and golden-yellow to lime-green. In May and June, arching stems rise above the clump, bearing pretty, airy chestnut-brown panicles of little flowers. Great woodrush Solar Flare is a good grass for bringing a splash of brilliant colour to a shady woodland planting, and small enough to be planted in a winter container, where it will cascade over the edge.
