Leatherleaf Sedge Red Rooster
Grown for its lovely reddish-copper colour and graceful habit, Carex buchananii Red Rooster is a small to medium-sized, clump-forming, evergreen, perennial grass. The clumps are upright and vase-shaped, making an impressive statement despite the grass’s rather small size. The fine, slender leaves, which keep their colour all year, move gracefully in the breeze, lending movement to the border. The flower-spikes are insignificant. Leatherleaf sedge Red Rooster works well contrasting with broad-leaved perennials and is particularly good in a gravel planting or against stone. It’s also a first-rate plant for containers in a city garden. A very easy, adaptable, rabbit-resistant, drought-tolerant grass; rake out dead leaves in spring to allow the new growth to shine.
