Andrea Costanti has been running this estate for over twenty years and it has been in his family for more than 200 years. It is situated in Colle al Matrichese in the eastern part of the Montalcino zone, just outside the town of Montalcino. It covers 10 hectares of vineyards and benefits from the talents of consultant oenologist Vittorio Fiore. Their style is characterised by the striking elegance and intensity of the best wines from this zone, combining the power of Montalcino with the elegance that comes from vineyards situated at a high altitude. Country: Italy Region: Tuscany Varietal: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage: 2017 Colour: Red Style: Dry Producer: Conti Costanti Description: Vineyards The vineyards are planted on galestro soil at an altitude of between 400-450m above sea level. The vines are between 8 and 27 years old. Vintage information The growing season went smoothly in Tuscany in 2017. Despite late maturation of the grapes, the temperature range in September and low rainfall helped the fruit attain excellent quality. 2017 was a great vintage, maybe even an excellent one. Vinification Fermentation took place on the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for 14 days. The wine was first aged for 18 months in 1-3 year old 3.5-6 hectolitre Slavonian oak barrels followed by 18 months in French tonneaux. After bottling, the wine aged in bottle for a further year before release.   Tasting Notes Deep ruby red with purple hues, notes of black cherries, sage, chocolate, cassis and new leather on the nose give way to opulent rich fruit in the mouth.  This is a huge, brooding red that will reward a few years‘ ageing while its formidable tannins melt into the fruit and the finely integrated oak.
