Country: Australia  Region: Victoria   Vintage: 2016 Grape Variety: Chardonnay  Colour: White Producer: Yering When vines were first planted by the Scottish-born Ryrie brothers in 1838, our land named ‘Yering’ by the Aboriginal community became the first vineyard in the state of Victoria. The brothers acquired 43,000 acres and planted two grape varieties – black cluster and sweet water. They also used the land to house their cattle farm. In 1850, the site was sold to a Swiss-Italian immigrant, Paul De Castella. He increased the vineyard by 50 acres, sourcing vines from around the globe including some from Chateau Lafite. In 1859 as operations expanded, De Castella built the Old Winery to house his winemaking equipment . Today, this historic fixture houses our iconic cellar door in tribute to our centuries-long journey. A balance between an upfront fruit style and lean acidity means that they shine with any food. Chief Winemaker, Willy Lunn has more than 25 years’ extensive and intimate cool climate winemaking experience both in Australia and overseas and has been at Yering Station since July 2008. The winery itself was the first in the now thriving Yarra Valley and the name Yering comes from the name for the area in the local Aboriginal language.  Committed to dynamic, experimental and progressive winemaking, Willy is setting the bar for cool climate Australian wine very high.  Tasting Notes: A mid straw colour with a citrus backbone complimented with melon and ripe apple fruit on the nose. The Palate is fresh and lively with lovely middle palate concentration. Juicy and succulent showing typical cool climate elegance. Food Suggestion: Enjoy with Steak/ Casserole/ Lamb
