False Olive Phillyrea angustifolia is a compact, rounded bush with up to 6cm long dark green leaves that resemble that of the European olive. In May and June small, white and often fragrant flowers cover the stems. The berries are produced in the Winter and can be purple to black. Mock Privet is ideal for seaside windy locations. A good shrub, especially if planted where the scent can be appreciated. It is a good alternative to the European Olive, looking similar but much hardier.
