Yucca aloifolia
Also known as the dagger plant for obvious reasons, Yucca aloifolia is a native of Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean. It develops a sparsely branched trunk that carries the iconic dense rosettes of sharply-pointed, green leaves. During late Summer, elongated bunches of creamy-white bell-shaped flowers are produced from the centre of the rosettes. The Spanish Bayonet makes a superb specimen plant, providing architectural interest in a mixed flower or shrub bed or works well as a stand-alone plant in the lawn.Site: Sheltered sites, including sheltered coastalSoil: Well drained normal soilsPosition: Full sunSeason of Interest: Architectural interest, evergreen foliageHardiness: HardyHeight: 5-8ft (1.5-2.5m) Spread: 2-3ft (0.5-1m)
