Sea Buckthorn Hergo (female) A German-bred, female cultivar of sea buckthorn, Hippophae rhamnoides Hergo is a large, slow-growing, deciduous shrub with an upright, suckering habit, making an excellent fruiting hedge if grown with a compatible male cultivar. Not as thorny as some sea buckthorns, it has narrow, grey green leaves, turning yellow-orange in autumn. Inconspicuous yellow flowers are followed in September by large, oval, pale orange berries, which are exceptionally rich in Vitamin C. Sea buckthorn Hergo fixes nitrogen and is one of the best cultivars for exposed sites.
