Apple Pixie
A popular dessert apple suitable for colder, wetter areas, Malus domestica Pixie is a very good choice for the home-grower, being compact, easy to grow, a spur-bearer and a good cropper. (It has a tendency to over-crop, in which case the fruit should be thinned early to get bigger apples). Pixie is thought to be a seedling of Cox’s Orange Pippin, and the fruit is similar, round, yellow-green, streaked and flushed with orange-red; the flavour is excellent, Cox-like, but juicier and slightly firmer and sharper, mellowing in storage; it will keep until March in ideal conditions. Much easier to grow than Cox, with good disease-resistance, especially to scab and mildew. Apple Pixie holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
