Spider Flower Canberra Gem A hardier cultivar of the Australian species, Grevillea rosmarinifolia Canberra Gem is a vigorous, medium-sized, evergreen shrub with a rounded habit, grown for its striking flowers and exotic appearance. The leaves are rosemary-like, but longer, deep green above, pale below, and with a sharp tip. Clusters of large, deep pink, waxy flowers of spidery appearance are borne from late winter to late summer. It is not a shrub for the coldest parts of Ireland, but will do well in milder, coastal or sheltered areas, where it may flower sporadically all year. Be aware that the flowers are toxic, although the nectar is not. Spider flower Canberra Gem holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
