Hydrangea Sundae Fraise A paniculate hydrangea related to the well-known Vanille Fraise, but much smaller, Hydrangea paniculata Sundae Fraise is a small to medium-sized, deciduous shrub with reddish-brown stems and a compact habit. The leaves are toothed, ovate and mid-green. The conical flower heads open green and white in July, fading to pink from the petal edges from August onwards and lasting until early October – the colour reminiscent of the strawberry sundae for which it’s named. This shrub dislikes scorching mid-day and early afternoon sun on a dry site, and exposed east-facing sites. Hydrangea Sundae Fraise is good for pollinators and is the perfect hydrangea for small gardens and containers. Good for pollinators. Leave the dead flowers over winter to protect new buds.
