American Woodbine
A very fragrant, free-flowering hybrid honeysuckle, Lonicera americana is a large, vigorous, evergreen to semi-evergreen, twining climber, which will need some support. The ovate leaves are deep green, and will stay on the plant all year in mild areas. In July and August, whorls of typical honeysuckle flowers open creamy-white, turning yellow with a strong deep-red flush, followed by red berries. The flowers are heavily scented and very attractive to bees. American woodbine, also known as evergreen honeysuckle, can be grown on a pergola or similar large support, or grown through a strong hedge.
