Japanese Silver Grass Morning Light A wonderfully refined, graceful grass, long cultivated in Japan, Miscanthus sinensis Morning Light is a fairly compact, deciduous, warm-season grass with a particularly elegant, upright, arching habit, like a wheat-sheaf. The very slender leaves are green with narrow white edges, giving an airy, mobile, silvery appearance, particularly lovely when back-lit by low sun. Pinkish plumes rise above the foliage in late autumn, fading to cream as the leaves turn pale brown. This cultivar tends to flower only after a hot summer, but it is so beautiful that one does not mind if it doesn’t. Cut back hard in early spring to allow the new foliage to shine. Japanese silver grass Morning Light holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
