Adam’s Needle
A small evergreen shrub, Yucca filamentosa develops thick rosettes of grey-green leaves that terminate into a sharp point. The stemless rosettes of leaves stand proud on the ground. Adam’s Needle is aptly named: the sword-like leaves, up to 1m long, have curly filaments along the edge. In July and August, large panicles of creamy-white flowers can be borne on tall, flower stems, easily reaching 2 meters in height. This is a strong, architectural plant, ideal for a sunny, sheltered garden where impact is needed. Can also work really well as a container-grown patio plant.Site: Sheltered sites, salt tolerantSoil: Well drained soilsPosition: Full sunSeason of Interest: Creamy-white flowers in late Summer, evergreen foliageHardiness: HardyHeight: 3ft (1m) Spread: 3-5ft (1-1.5m)
