Mirabelle de Nancy
An ancient variety thought to have been brought to France from the Middle East in the 16th century, Mirabelle Mirabelle de Nancy is the most popular mirabelle in France, where it’s used for tarts and preserves. The fruit is very small, round and a rich speckled apricot-yellow in colour; the flesh is golden-yellow, firm and sweet, with good acid balance, a free stone and a very good flavour in a good summer. Can be eaten fresh when fully ripe. Moderately vigorous tree, and a reasonably good cropper, but can be slow to come into bearing. Will cross-pollinate with plums and damsons. Good disease resistance. Best grown in a warm, sheltered position in full sun.
