Gage Denniston’s Superb
Bred in New York State in the 19th century, dessert Plum Denniston’s Superb is thought to be a true plum, but has beautiful greengage-like fruit, and is less fussy than most gages. Small, round, greenish-yellow fruit with sweet, rich, greengage flavour. Moderately vigorous, upright-spreading tree with a tendency to develop a weeping habit; reliable, heavy cropper. Attractive blossom; excellent pollinator. Self-fertile, but may crop even better if cross-pollinated. Good disease resistance, especially to canker. Also known as Imperial Gage, under which name it holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
