Mentha Eau de Cologne
The latin name is Mentha x piperita f. citrata, a very fragrant mint with an aroma of lemon even when just lightly brushed up against. It is a natural hybrid of the natural M. aquatica (Water Mint) and M. spicata (Spearmint) and has a very strong flavour, best used as a garnish for for desserts and cold drinks where the leaves add a nice lemon aroma, can also be used for flavouring vinegars or making into tea. When the mint is growing in abundance a large bunch adds a lovely relaxing fragrance to a bath and the scented leaves of Mint Eau de Cologne can also be picked in mid Summer and dried to use in pot pourri. Mint can spread indefinitely so be careful where you plant it.
