Country: New Zealand Region: Marlborough Varietal: Sauvignon Blanc Vintage: 2021 Colour: White Style: Dry Producer: Kim Crawford Estate Description: Kim Crawford Wines was established in late 1996, when Kim launched a range made from fruit grown in the South Island. Kim sold the company to Constellation in 2005 and has since handed the winemaking reins over to the Constellation winemaking team. Despite Kim no longer being involved with these wines, the current winemakers continue the classic Kim Crawford philosophy and style. Control over grape supply has always been essential for Kim Crawford Wines and they now have the largest vineyard resource in Marlborough of any wine company, across the greatest breadth of sub-regions, ensuring consistency of quality and style. Vineyards:  The grapes were selected from vineyards in Marlborough's Wairau Valley and the neighbouring Awatere Valley. Fast draining, alluvial loams over gravelly sub soils in these valleys provide ideal growing conditions for Sauvignon Blanc. Individual blocks were targeted for their strengths and overall contribution to the blend. The vines ranged in age from 18 months to 15 years bringing a mix of youthful vigour and depth of flavour. Vintage information: Summer 2013 was delightful, with heat summation marginally above the long term average and lots of beautiful sunny days. Notably however, the mean daily temperatures during mid-summer were below the long-term average, providing an idyllic sunny and dry growing environment, without excessive heat. Marlborough was fortunate to receive intermittent rainfall throughout the growing season, which warded off the severe drought conditions experienced by much of the country. Vinification: The grapes were machine harvested in the cool of the evening and overnight to preserve flavour and pressed immediately with minimal skin contact. Each block was kept separate throughout the various stages of the winemaking process. Fermentations were carried out at low temperatures and when all tanks had completed fermentation they were proportionately blended, fined, stabilised and bottled. Tasting Note: Beautifully bright, pale lemon in the glass. Pink grapefruit, passion fruit, frangipani, and pineapple aromas wow the senses. Full of flavour, balanced by mouth-watering acidity and a fresh, zesty finish. Food Matches: Poultry / Fish / White Meat / Pasta
