The "Areca Palm", "Dypsis lutescens" or "Butterfly Palm" is a native plant to Madagascar but has since been introduced to many tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas.  This is one of our most popular indoor plants and no wonder, with its' slender arching yellow stems and feathery evergreen leaves. Areca palms don’t just look good – they’re also good at removing toxins like formaldehyde from the air. Here in Ireland, it can thrive in an indoor environment, albeit with some care to mimic those tropical climates.  Care Instructions Leaves need to be sprayed with water once or twice a week. This can be done in the shower with tepid water or with a mister/sprayer. This is important as the centrally heated homes here make for dry air which can turn leaves brown, as can prolonged direct sunlight.  Cannot tolerate standing in water so ensure they are placed in well-draining pots.  Water regularly in spring and summer, enough to keep the compost just moist, and mist the leaves frequently.  In autumn and winter, water more sparingly, allowing the compost to dry out slightly between waterings. Yellowing leaves can indicate underwatering and brown leaf tips can be a sign of cold drafts or an overly dry atmosphere.  Care Level Rating: Medium-Difficult-  depending on the home environment.  Notes: This variety measures in at approx 150cm-170cm in height but can grow many metres in height with proper care.  All large plants come with their plastic nursery pot only. Ceramic pots are sold separately.  Recommended Container Size: 24cm x 22cm
