Medardo Rosso (1858 - 1928) was an Italian sculptor. He is considered, like his contemporary and admirer Auguste Rodin, to be an artist working in a post-Impressionist style.In 2016 Peter Freeman, Inc., New York and Amedeo Porro Fine Arts, Lugano/London presented an ambitious exhibition in New York of the work of Medardo Rosso. This was the first exhibition anywhere to focus exclusively on Rosso’s bronzes, ten of which were on display.“Medardo Rosso was a pivotal yet enigmatic figure for the origin and development of modern European sculpture. By modulating the sculptural surface, he made his works receptive to subtle changes of light, expressing a radical idea of “dematerializing” the three-dimensional object, as if it were subject to the influence of time and its surrounding atmosphere." - from the Routledge Encyclopedia of Modernism, entry by Sharon Hecker:This book accompanied the exhibition.
