Come Closer and Listen: Poems by Charles Simic

Quay Books
Observant and keenly imagined, this is a 2019 book of poems from the Serbian-born American, who left the impression in his verse that he had “poked a hole into everyday life to reveal a glimpse of something endless.”
Charles Simic was a serious poet and thinker who disliked pretension in any form. He told a Paris Review interviewer: “Every grand theory and noble sentiment ought to be first tested in the kitchen..."
He passed away in January 2023. The Poetry Foundation said: "Charles Simic is widely recognized as one of the most visceral and unique poets writing today."
