Japanese Spindle Green Spire This is a very upright, slender tree for any garden; Euonymus japonicus Green Spire is an evergreen tree with a columnar habit. The leaves emerge bright green, turning dense, oval, glossy and deep green. The flowers are insignificant; sometimes fruit forms in autumn. Good in architectural or city and courtyard gardens or a low-maintenance garden, and corners of beds and borders as a small punctuation mark. If grown in full sun, reliably moist soil will be needed. Japanese spindle Green Spire can be propagated by semi-ripe cuttings in late summer. An easy tree that needs minimal pruning (occasionally trim off wayward twigs) and is on the whole pest- and disease-free. It can also be grown as a low hedge, and is good for topiary, if box blight is a problem in your area.
