Acer Pacific Sunset (Warren’s Red)
A fairly compact, hybrid tree with brilliant autumn colour, Acer x platanoides Pacific Sunset (Warren's Red) is a large, hardy, fast-growing, deciduous tree with an egg-shaped, rounded habit, grey-brown, slightly furrowed bark and red shoots in spring. It’s an ideal tree for a smaller garden. The fine, lobed leaves, typical of maples, emerge shrimp-pink and yellow, maturing to mid-green in summer and turning flaming orange-red and yellow-orange in autumn. Racemes of yellow-green appear in April, and are followed by double, winged seeds. Acer Pacific Sunset needs minimal pruning, tolerates air pollution and does well in hot, dry conditions. Good for bees and butterflies.
