Bloody Cranesbill Max Frei
A very good, compact, hardy geranium or cranesbill, Geranium sanguineum Max Frei is a small, rhizomatous, herbaceous perennial with a neat, clump-forming habit, perfect for the front of a bed or border. The small leaves are deeply divided, and deep green, a good foil for the flowers. In summer, the plant bears saucer-shaped, purplish-pink, slightly ruffled flowers and carries on flowering for weeks; the flowers are good for pollinators. Bloody cranesbill Max Frei can be cut back hard after the flowers have gone over, and will quickly produce a mound of fresh leaves; that is really all you need to do to it. Cranesbills are really easy, low maintenance plants – even slugs and rabbits turn up their noses at them!
