Country: Italy Region: Tuscany Varietal: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc Vintage: 2017 Colour: Red Style: Dry Producer: Tenuta San Guido Description: Sassicaia came to be when the Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, having settled on the Tenuta San Guido estate, created a wine inspired by the Salviati Dukes; they had made a wine from their vineyards which had the same unmistakable bouquet and flavours of an aged Bordeaux. The wine was made to share with family and friends and not released for commercial purposes until 1968. However, as the early examples aged in the cellars, the true quality and essence of Sassicaia began to shine through. Since that first release, Sassicaia has grown to be one of the most collectable and recognisable wines in the world. Having tasted the 2016, it is the modern day icon that we’ve all been waiting for since the mesmerising, 100pt 1985 Sassicaia. A brilliantly complete, succulent, purely-fruited, complex, and powerful yet fresh wine, this is one for everyone’s collection… Tasting Notes The 2017 Sassicaia is a wild, exotic beauty. Sumptuous and flamboyantly ripe, the 2017 captures all the personality of the year in spades. Super-ripe red cherry, pomegranate and spice notes all flesh out in this curvy, racy beauty from Tenuta San Guido. Antonio Galloni (March 2019)
