Country: Italy  Region: Campania  Vintage: 2021 Varietal: Falanghina  Category: White Wine   Producer: Vesevo PRODUCERThe name Vesevo is the historic name for Vesuvius. The vineyardsare located in the Irpinian hills of Campania, potentially one ofItaly's most exciting wine producing areas. Despite being so farsouth, there are large differences here between day and nighttemperatures, making the harvest here one of the latest in Italy.VINEYARDSThe vineyards are situated between 450-550 metres above sealevel and benefit from a cool breeze that blows off the Bay ofNaples. This same breeze has, over the centuries, blown volcanicash from Vesuvius inland, giving the soil here a volcanic characterrich in minerals and trace elements. This lends a great depth offlavour to the grapes.VINIFICATIONOnce arrived at the winery, grapes were carefully selected andgently pressed. To preserve the aromatic characters ofFalanghina, the must was chilled immediately in order to achievesettling. The settled must was fermented in temperature controlledstainless steel tanks at 12-14°C. The wine remained in stainless steeltanks until bottling, with no malolactic fermentation. Regular leesstirring took place to impart more flavour and body to the wine. The wine underwent cold stabilisation and filtration before bottling.TASTING NOTESBright straw yellow in colour, the Falanghina 2020 has intenseperfumes of white flowers and white melon with mineral notes thatprovide a backdrop to the full, ripe palate. An elegant wine, witha lingering touch of honey on the finish.
