Leatherwood Pink Cloud A lovely cultivar of the Tasmanian species, Eucryphia lucida Pink Cloud is a medium-sized to tall, evergreen tree, with a narrow, columnar, densely branched habit, so is good in the smaller garden in milder areas. The 2”/5cm long, oval leaves are deep, glossy green with blue-grey undersides, a beautiful foil for the flowers. In July and August, at a time when the garden can look tired, this plant shines, carrying large, saucer-shaped, pink flowers shading to white, with a crimson ‘eye’. Needs minimal pruning; prune after flowering only if necessary. Leatherwood Pink Cloud is shallow-rooted, so shade the roots from hot sun, with the canopy in the sun, and keep it well watered, especially at bud initiation at the end of June. Site: ShelteredSoil: Fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained, acidic to neutral soilPosition: Full sun, or light or dappled shadeSeason of interest: July and August in particularHardiness: Reasonably hardy (-5 to -10ºC)Height: 26’ (8m) Spread: 13’ (4m) in 20 years
