Magnolia Black Tulip A gorgeous specimen tree for a spring garden, Magnolia Black Tulip is a small, vigorous, deciduous tree with an upright, open habit and rounded crown. The large, oval leaves, up to 6”/15cm long, are rich mid-green, and turn yellow in autumn. From March to May, the tree carries on the bare branches large, egg-shaped flowers with rounded petals of an intense deep pink, almost red-purple, up to 6”/15cm across. (The flowers may not come true in shape and colour for the first year). Magnolia Black Tulip would look wonderful underplanted with purple-chequered and white snakeshead fritillaries, which also like moist soil.
