'Boykin’ by Alastair Keady 700 x 500mm9 hand pulled inks, one silver gilded, on 350gsm G . F Smith Colorplan Mist paper.Edition of 12. Numbered and signed by the artist About the PieceA mix of silver metallic ink, split fountain blues, silver-gilt, white, and vibrant orange on a warm grey field. hand-distressed textures are layered on top of each other in this piece, inspired, and named for the Gee’s Bend quilters in Boykin, Alabama. Specifically the denim work of Mary Lee Bendolph. Intentional overspills and spread have been introduced into the artwork, as well as the retention of any actual imperfections, so there is subtle variance across the edition. About the ArtistAlastair is a graphic design graduate of NCAD and the Royal College of Art. He’s worked as a designer, and design educator, for far too long to dwell on. Interested in process and materiality in printmaking, he’s previously worked in letterpress, but returned to screen printing in 2017. Often found devising an image-making technique, and then discovering ways to undermine, abuse, and subvert it. Loves a happy accident. Disinterested in rigorous adherence to consistency in a world of perfect reproduction. Which is convenient.
