This event oficially starts at 7pm, but you are welcome to arrive earlier in the day to watch the hog cook over fire. We have decided to go big or go home. This is it folks, this is the big daddy. This is the whole hog. Literally - we are going to cook a full pig over the flames. Inspired by the menu at Rodney Scott's famous BBQ joint we are hosting a pop-up eat and learn event at our HQ. When you arrive, you will be actively helping to make and cook Southern Hush Puppies. Hush Puppies are round golf ball sized, light and flaky cornmeal batter that is fried golden brown on the outside and soft on the inside served as a side dish to any southern meal. After starters we will remove a slow cooked whole hog from our home made pit. Served with fresh sourdough bread and home-made coleslaw. For dessert our resident baker, Laura, will have prepared a classic decadent Hummingbird Cake. This moist and rich cake is made with banana and pineapple and topped with cream cheese and pecan brittle. Pure luxury. We will serve a complimentary Barbacoa Rum or Low 'n' Sloe Gin for the non-drivers, and you are welcome to BYOB. There will be loads of soft drinks available. Everyone will take home recipes and instructions for all the dishes. Menu Hush Puppies & Lannleir Honey Butter Whole Hog Breads & Sides Hummingbird Cake Soft Drinks & Water Learning During this event you will learn how to make Hush Puppies, how to prepare pit beans, you will see how whole hog is cooked and understand the temperature requirements. There will be plenty of food and nobody will leave hungry. Venue We have ample parking at the venue. All food and equipment is provided. There will be basic toilet facilities. The venue is partially outdoors (with shelter available) so please bring a rain coat. The venue is accessible, but you may need some assistance with a low step. Children are welcome, but please be aware that we are on a very busy main road and constant supervision is required. Children do not need as ticket if you are happy to share with them. Dietary Please note we cannot cater for allergens, dietary requirements, or special requests. Most of the main courses in this series are gluten free and if you let us know we will try and cater for gluten free. The home made cakes are not possible to make with GF flour. This event is not suitable for vegans or vegetarians!  Food Safety You will not be handling raw meat.  You will be provided with hand-washing facilities.  You will be partly preparing your own food and this is a learning event rather than a catering event. We are approved by the HSE to make cakes and prepare sauces in our kitchen and we have HACCP training. All other meal prep will be hands on and part of the learning event.
