7 Week Transition Year Pottery Course About the Course 4, 11, 18, 25, November, 2, 9, 16 December 10am - 1pm This 7-week Friday-mornings course provides the opportunity for Transition Year Students to work with clay, expertly supported by one of our experienced pottery teachers.    Students will learn to work with clay, using different techniques of hand-building and throwing on a pottery wheel. They will gain experience of designing, creating, and glazing their own pieces in a creative environment, and will be given a tour of our production pottery to see the work of our potters and glazers.   Students will also have the opportunity to have a work placement within the pottery during the course of their Transition Year, subject to confirming suitable dates.  Where and What Time:  4, 11, 18, 25, November, 2, 9, 16 December 10am - 1pm This workshop runs for 7 Friday mornings from 10am to 1pm in our Arran Street East studio in the heart of the Dublin Fruit and Vegetable Markets area.  Cost: €340 Course Features: - Visit to the pottery to meet the makers - Demonstrations by our potters and glazers of how to throw clay on a wheel and how to glaze - Learning different ways of working with clay: wedging, slabbing, pinching, coiling, throwing, pulling handles - Practice on student's own wheel  - During the course students will create a piece which will be glazed by them and ready for them to take home at the end of the course.   If you would like to give this Workshop as a gift please look at our Gift Cards options here. FAQs Who is this course for? This pottery course is aimed at Transition Year Students What are my transport/parking options getting to the workshop? The nearest Luas Red Line stop is 'Four Courts', (a five minute walk away) and many bus routes service Stop 1479 on Ormond Quay, at the junction with Capel Street. You'll also find a Dublin Bikes stand at each of these locations. Due to our City Centre location, on-street parking immediately outside the building is limited, but there is pay and display in the general area, and there are large car parks nearby at Jervis Shopping Centre and beside the Fruit and Vegetable Markets. What does the course entail? You will be welcomed by your teacher and brought to an upstairs classroom (no lifts available). Each participant will have access to their own pottery wheel/workstation and tools for the duration of the workshop. We supply all the materials you need. Each workshop ends with a class and equipment tidy up - another important part of the potter's training!  What should I wear/bring? Please wear comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting messy. Please bring your own apron and hand towel.  Are there any Health and Safety issues? Please note you will be working on a pottery wheel in a bent position which might put some strain on your neck or back or wrists. Please first consult your doctor if you have had back, neck, wrist or any other injuries. To reach the classroom you will have to use stairs and there is no lift in the building. Please keep your hair tied up and your nails short.  Is my booking transferrable and what is the cancellation policy? You may transfer your booking into someone else's name - please just let us know before they attend.
