The grapes from the various plots of this estate, situated on the Hermitage hill, are vinified separately, right up until the final blending, which takes place one year after the harvest. This is how we create our two red Hermitage wines: “La Chapelle” and “La Petite Chapelle”. The first vintage was 2001. The Syrah vines are planted in rich and varied soils with very diverse terroirs (les Bessards, les Greffieux, le Méal and les Rocoules).It is the richness of these different terroirs that provides 'La Petite Chapelle' with its complexity. Grapes are brought down from the slopes of l’Hermitage on small sledges, after which they are sorted by hand and vinified traditionally.Final blending is carried out during the ageing process and is done through judicious selection from the different terroirs of l’Hermitage. Critical Acclaim RP92 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate The 2010 Hermitage La Petite Chapelle is a better wine than nearly every Hermitage La Chapelle made under the final years of the Jaboulet family’s ownership (for example, 1993-2005). The 2010 was aged in barrel and represents one-third of the Hermitage crop (another one-third was eliminated and the final one-third went into La Chapelle). Its deep purple color is followed by notes of camphor, tar, pepper, beef blood, black currant jam and hints of new saddle leather as well as earth. WS91 Wine Spectator Rather stolid for Hermitage, with a wall of roasted cedar in front of cassis, blackberry paste and iron notes. Ample cocoa flavors course through the finish, with a slightly austere structure. Shows depth, but lacks the drive and range of the best from the appellation. WE90 Wine Enthusiast The 2010 La Petite Chapelle is firmly structured and tannic, but presents attractive aromas of earth, roasted meat and cedar, rounded out by savory flavors of black olive and espresso.
