Country: France Region: Provence Varietal: Grenache, Rolle, Cinsault, Syrah, and Mourvèdre Vintage: 2020 Colour: Rose Style: Dry Producer: Chateau d'Esclans Description: Rosé has undoubtedly become the de rigeur drink of the summer and Ireland's perennial favourite Whispering Angel has, over the last 5 years, become one of the most in-demand wines in the world. Indeed, the estate sells out globally every year, well in advance of the season it was created for...! Sacha Lichine's fabulous rosés have garnered this cult-following for many years now and deservedly so... With proper Bordeaux winemaking pedigree in spades (Sacha ran Chateau Prieure-Lichine and the Whispering Angel wine-maker, Patrick Léon, was formerly director of Mouton-Rothschild!) they set out to make the finest rosés in the world. We are not alone in believing that they have achieved just this. We just popped open another bottle of the latest vintage at WineOnline.ie HQ and it was brilliantly ‘boshable’! Juicy and moreish but elegant and supple, this will hit every spot when the warmer seasons roll in As a negociant and vinificateur (winery), Caves d’esclans identifies vineyards, grapes and wines from château d’esclans as well as local growers to make what has reputedly become the world’s greatest rosé. As their objective is to obtain the best quality grapes and wines, they have created relationships with the local grape growers, committed beside Caves d’esclans, whose vineyards are treated with the same high standards of quality as are the vineyards of Château d’esclans. Tasting Note:  This beautiful salmon-pink Provence rosé has a very pretty scent of crushed strawberries, peach, rose-water and orange blossom. On the palate, it is wonderfully dry and crisp with delicate summer berry fruits balanced by citrus zest acidity and a deliciously creamy finish. A fabulously sophisticated rosé that is perfect for summer picnics or evening aperitif. Reviews   17.5/20 Matthew Jukes - “I have been tracking this wine since day one – and I mean eleven years ago when Sacha Lichine realised his dream to launch an elite Provence Rosé not just yesterday when this preview sample was delivered to my door.  As every year rolls by Whispering Angel reaches out to thousands more palates.  Nowadays millions of bottles are made, but the remarkable thing about this wine is that while its fame grows exponentially, the quality in the glass continues to march forwards, too.  Made from Grenache, Cinsault, Rolle (Vermentino), Syrah and Tibouren, growing in vineyards surrounding the winery in La Motte en Provence, this is another sensual, silky-smooth, enthralling release and it comes in a vintage when there were many challenges during the growing season.  Perhaps a little more forward than the dramatic 2016, and yet more succulent, too, I can tell you that in the last few days of 2017, this wine is already drinking beautifully.  Only three months after harvest, Whispering Angel is casting its spell with unerring accuracy and it will continue to shine in the glass and impress all-comers throughout 2018.” Available also by the Single Bottle here   “Always delicious”James Suckling   “Great character”Jonathan Ray (The Spectator UK)   “Chewy and mouthwatering”Decanter   “The Cool thing you have to drink» … also impressively good.”Ray Isle (Food & Wine)   “Dense and rich with lovely texture”Anthony Dias Blue (The Tasting Panel)   “Very clear and clean and will gain flavours during the year”Steven Spurrier   “You could drink it from mid-day to midnight”Matthew Jukes   “Loaded onto yachts on the Côte d’Azur and consumed in quantity by connoisseurs”Serena Sutcliffe   “More palate grabbing by far from the Provencal Pink norm”Jancis Robinson
