Make a Mug, 1.5 day Weekend Course About this class This class teaches you the preliminary skills to throw pots on a pottery wheel and make and attach handles to create a bespoke Mug of your own. On this day-and-a-half workshop, in a small class, you will work on your individual pottery wheel to shape clay, with demonstrations by our pottery teacher teacher, who will guide you to learn throwing techniques, and make a Mug with a handle. Learning Outcomes You will develop skills to throw and handle your mugs on a pottery wheel, including: - understanding your clay - working with your pottery tools - centering and pulling a pot on your wheel - shaping techniques - taking your pot off your wheel - creating and shaping and attaching handles - taking care of your wheel station At the end of the class we will ask you to select two of your favourite pieces that you make in the class, and we will fire and glaze them for you, and contact you when they are ready for collection - usually within a few weeks after the class. Alternatively you may glaze the pieces yourself if you wish to attend a glazing workshop.  Add Glazing Workshop for €75 We really hope you will enjoy your time on the wheel as much as we enjoy teaching it, and hope to see you soon in our School of Pottery! If you would like to give this Workshop as a gift please look at our Gift Cards options here. Where and What Time: This workshop runs for a day and a half day in our light-filled Arran Street East studio in the heart of the Dublin Fruit and Vegetable Markets area. Eircode: D07 K744 google map. Time: 10.30-4.30pm on day 1 and 10.30-2.30pm on day 2 Lunch is from around 1pm to 2pm and there are several lovely places nearby for you to buy lunch if you wish, for example: Brother Hubbard Panem Fegans 1924 Oxmantown FAQs  What should I wear/bring?  Your clothes and shoes will get wet and dirty from clay splashes so please wear comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting messy. Please bring your own apron and a hand towel.  You may take as many of your pots home with you as you like so please bring small boxes (like Tupperware or cardboard) to bring your creations home with you.  Who is this course for? This pottery workshop will suit beginners looking for an introduction to working with clay, or those who have worked with clay before and would like a simple refresher or time on the wheel. Is there an age limit for the Workshop? This course is generally for people aged 18 and above. A teenager over 15 may attend if they are accompanied by an adult. Please let us know in advance.  What's the day like? You will be welcomed by your teacher and brought to one of our light-filled classrooms (please let us know if you have mobility issues so we can accommodate you in the downstairs classroom, as some classrooms are accessible by stairs only). Each participant will have access to their own pottery wheel/workstation and tools for the duration of the workshop. We supply all the materials you need, but please bring your own apron and towel so as not together your clothes wet with clay. The workshop ends with a class and equipment tidy up - another important part of the potter's training!  What are my transport/parking options getting to the workshop? The nearest Luas Red Line stop is 'Four Courts', (a five minute walk away) and many bus routes service Stop 1479 on Ormond Quay, at the junction with Capel Street. You'll also find a Dublin Bikes stand at each of these locations. Due to our City Centre location, on-street parking immediately outside the building is limited, but there is pay and display in the general area, and there are large car parks nearby at Jervis Shopping Centre and beside the Fruit and Vegetable Markets. Is my booking transferrable and what is the cancellation policy? Please check our cancellation policy. Are there any Health and Safety issues? Please note you will be working on a pottery wheel in a bent position which might put some strain on your neck or back or wrists. Please first consult your doctor if you have had back, neck, wrist or any other injuries.  Please keep your hair tied up and your nails short.  Where can I contact you with any questions? You can email us at [email protected].
