Throwdown Workshop  About the class Welcome to our ever-popular pottery throwing class! On this one-day workshop, in a small class, you will work on your own pottery wheel to shape clay, guided by one of our expert potters, learning throwing techniques and making some small pots. At the end of the workshop we will ask you to select your favourite pot, and we will fire and glaze it for you, and contact you when it is ready for collection - usually a few weeks after the workshop. Or you can book into one of our 2-hour Glazing Workshops to glaze your own pot and learn the basics of glazing techniques.  As you will probably make more than one pot during the day, you are welcome to bring the pots you make home with you to airdry (please note these pieces can be used for display only and are not watertight). You can recycle the clay in these pieces if you want to make something new, and/or purchase the At Home Clay Kit if you would like to further your learning at home with our online tutorials and toolkit. Cost: €145 Where and What Time: This workshop runs for a full day (10am-4pm or 11am-5pm) in our light-filled Arran Street East studio in the heart of the Dublin Fruit and Vegetable Markets area. Lunch is from 1pm to 2pm or 1.30pm to 2.30pm, and there are several lovely places nearby for you to buy lunch if you wish, for example: Brother Hubbard Panem Fegands 1924 Oxmantown FAQs Who is this course for? This pottery workshop will suit beginners looking for an introduction to working with clay, or those who have worked with clay before and would like a simple refresher or time to make some new pieces. Is there an age limit for the Workshop? This course is generally for people aged 18 and above. A teenager over 15 may attend if they are accompanied by an adult. Please let us know in advance.  What are my transport/parking options getting to the workshop? The nearest Luas Red Line stop is 'Four Courts', (a five minute walk away) and many bus routes service Stop 1479 on Ormond Quay, at the junction with Capel Street. You'll also find a Dublin Bikes stand at each of these locations. Due to our City Centre location, on-street parking immediately outside the building is limited, but there is pay and display in the general area, and there are large car parks nearby at Jervis Shopping Centre and beside the Fruit and Vegetable Markets. What's the day like? You will be welcomed by your teacher and brought to an upstairs light-filled classroom (no lifts available). Each participant will have access to their own pottery wheel/workstation and tools for the duration of the workshop. We supply all the materials you need. The workshop ends with a class and equipment tidy up - another important part of the potter's training!  What should I wear/bring? Please wear comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting messy. Please bring your own apron. Should I wear a mask?  As per the government's regulations masks are not mandatory during the workshop.  Are there any Health and Safety issues? Please note you will be working on a pottery wheel in a bent position which might put some strain on your neck or back or wrists. Please first consult your doctor if you have had back, neck, wrist or any other injuries.  To reach the classroom you will have to use stairs and there is no lift in the building.  Please keep your hair tied up and your nails short.  When will my pot be available for collection? We will ask you to select your favourite piece that you made in the workshop, and we will fire and glaze it for you, and contact you when it is ready for collection - usually within a few weeks after the class.  You will make a few different little pots during the day, which you are welcome to bring home to airdry if you like. Please bring your own wrapping (bubble wrap, tissue paper, small carboard box, etc) if you would like to do this. Please note these pieces can be used for display only and are not watertight. You can recycle the clay in these pieces if you want to make something else or use our At Home Clay Kit if you would like to learn some handbuilding techniques.
