'Ring a Rosies' by Karen Browett 6-colour hand-pulled screen print297 x 420mm  on 300gsm Munken Polar paper. Edition of 18, signed and numbered by the artist. About the ArtistKaren Browett is a print maker and multimedia artist with a particular love for screen print. She began experimenting in screen print 15 years ago as a means to make economical merchandise for the DIY punk bands she was playing in. Having honed her skills, she has become a long time Damn Fine Print member and creative. About the Piece"What a distinct and strange summer it has been. It has often felt like the ivy is growing over me as I wait for the world to begin again. I spend a lot of time with my flowers and the bees thinking about the balance of all things. "I say ‘hello bumbog’ aloud every time one pauses in my garden and if they stay I tell them news as the old Irish tradition goes. It’s a comforting oddity I have acquired. "The composition came from a strange nostalgic fever-dreamed remembrance of the nursery rhyme ‘Ring a ring of rosies’ and finding out the legend about it being a song about times of plague. It’s jarring thinking about nursery rhymes in such realism and horror. It’s also jarring to think about what’s happened over the last year as real. "I made this image sitting in my tiny garden that I built with that rhymes melody spinning in my head while idly wondering how to make my flowers beat the rampant ivy in their race along my walls. I googled ivy for a distraction and was brought to an article detailing how the honey from Irish ivy is one of the best defences for coughs and bronchial ailments around and a saviour to our bee populations. I stopped pulling it up and paused to listen to the small army of bees in this built up city patio enclave. "‘Sorry bumbog. As you were. Enjoy the flowers as well as the ivy’" About the Project Damn Fine Print proudly presents a new collection of works by members and contributors to showcase some of the talent and creativity we’ve seen in our studio recently.
