The Powerscourt Distillery have been busy producing their own spirit under the watchful eye of their Master Distillery, Mr. Noel Sweeney, who is shaping the distillery’s spirit to create some masterful malts and blends for the years to come. Until then, the Powerscourt Distillery have released a sourced range of whiskeys and released them under the brand name ‘Fercullen’ which was the old name for the Powerscourt Estate, wherein the distillery itself lies. This sourced liquid has a slight twist though, like many distilleries, Powerscourt are sourcing malt and grain from Cooley Distillery, although, unlike every other distillery, it was Powerscourt’s Master Distiller, Noel Sweeney, who actually distilled this liquid during his tenure as Master Distiller in Cooley Distillery. Fercullen 14 Year Old Single Malt is a malt whiskey that has been exclusively aged in ex-bourbon barrels before being bottled at 46% ABV Non-Chill Filtered. Colour: Amber Nose: White peach, lots of citrus stone fruits, slight herbal characteristic with a hint of vanilla, honey and cinnamon spice. Very clean and enjoyable nose. Palate: This is a vibrant fresh palate with lots of tropical fruits with a deliciously creamy undertone and a biscuity, malt body. A decent wood influence that fades with honey and hazelnut undertones. Finish: Medium length finish with lingering oak prickle. Slight malt sweetness continuing through with a light nuttiness.
