Quay Books
Samuel Neil (1825–1901) was a Scottish schoolteacher, journalist and author, the son of an Edinburgh bookseller.
In 1886 he was responsible for most of the editing and compiling of a 6 volume encyclopaedia, covering subjects from Astronomy, Trigonometry and Geology to Music, Language and Natural Philosophy.
This first volume of The Home Teacher, a Cyclopædia of Self-instruction contains full-page and in-text illustrations, double-page colour maps of Asia and Europe, as well as colour graphs and scientific illustrations.
Published by William MacKenzie, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dublin circa 1900.
Illustrated with numerous engravings.
Leather spine with some fraying. Leather corners also frayed. Boards are strong, but have some long dried water stains.
Otherwise, the book is in good condition, very clean, and binding is intact.
