Still More Commonplace, by Mary Stocks
€6.00
Quay Books
Mary Danvers Stocks (1891 – 1975) was a British writer, academic and broadcaster. She was deeply involved in social issues such as women's suffrage and the welfare state and she served on a number of official government committees. She lectured in Economics, first in London and then in Oxford. In 1939, she became Principal of Westfield College in London. Later in life, she was involved with BBC radio and appeared frequently on “Any Questions?”.
In Still More Commonplace Mary Stocks reflects on her life and work. It contains details about her time at the BBC and as a lecturer and includes a chapter on Marie Stopes.
The wisdom of a long life, the wit of a disciplined mind and the sharply pertinent views of a woman deeply concerned for humanity are a welcome comment on these times.
