'Hackney' by Alastair Keady 7 colour hand-pulled screen print with bronzed gold pigment arrow420x594mm / on 300gsm Munken Polar white paper. Edition of 12, signed and numbered by the artist. About the Project"‘Hackney’ is inspired by the work of Scottish jewellery designer, and ex-housemate Katy Hackney. Based on an original brooch design – where the only precious metal element was an arrow embedded in polished wood, sprouting out of a puzzle-painted wood block base. This is my loose interpretation of the piece, but adapted to a very different medium. The arrow is printed and then dusted with gold powder, allowing for a more metallic effect than simple gold ink would produce." About the ArtistAlastair is a graphic design graduate of NCAD and the Royal College of Art. He’s worked as a designer, and design educator, for far too long to dwell on. Interested in process and materiality in printmaking, he’s previously worked in letterpress, but returned to screen printing in 2017. Often found devising an image-making technique, and then discovering ways to undermine, abuse, and subvert it. Loves a happy accident. Disinterested in rigorous adherence to consistency in a world of perfect reproduction. Which is convenient.
