Penguin Parade was an ambitious project, aimed at showcasing new stories and poetry. The first issue was released in November 1937, with new books appearing every few months until the end of the Second World. It was edited by Denys Kilham Roberts (1903-1976). This issue includes Brandy, a short story by Spanish journalist, Arturo Barea (1897 – 1957), set in Madrid during the Spanish Civil War. Barea had come to England as an exile in 1939 after Franco had come to power.   Dorothy Ruth Kahn (1907 -1950), who wrote Naphtali, was an American-Israeli journalist who emigrated to Palestine in 1933 and worked for the Palestine Post, which later became the Jerusalem Post. A Priest in the Family is a short story by Canadian modernist poet Leo Kennedy (1907 – 2000). Based on personal and family experience growing up in Montreal, it is considered to be his best prose work. Published by Penguin Books in 1940. Good condition. Binding intact.
